Doctor Charged in Toronto Sex Assault Has Military Ties

Amitabh Chauhan and Suganthan Kayilasanathan are set to appear in court Wednesday morning.

Police say Chauhan and Kayilasanathan, both 32, drugged and sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman at a downtown Toronto hotel on Feb. 13. Troubling details continue to emerge about the pair, who both work as doctors in the Toronto area but have traveled extensively together. Police believe they may have committed similar crimes in other jurisdictions and since their arrest one other woman has come forward with allegations against Chauhan. The Department of National Defence has confirmed that Chauhan has military ties, and served 10 years in the Canadian Forces after becoming a cadet in 1997. He left the military in 2007 and is now a member of the naval reserves.
