The growing instability in the Middle East and North Africa could have grave consequences for those regions, and for the rest of the world.
Based on the economists' “Shoe-thrower’s Index,” this map shows the current instability across the Middle East and North Africa.
Different colours signify where each region falls on the scale. The countries are ranked based on their weapons programs, the aggregates of their stockpiles, and the sophistication of their existing weapons, as well as on their access to raw materials and their ability to produce new weapons.
By looking at the Middle East and North Africa in this context, we can see the dangers that might arise from an increasing instability in those regions. If regimes continue to fall, what will happen to this area of the world?
