Consumers can start ordering the BlackBerry tablet computer online Tuesday.

Canada’s legions of BerryZombies are about to get a new toy. Research In Motion has announced that the PlayBook, its business-oriented response to Apple’s iPad, is now available for order and will be in 20,000 retail outlets across North America by April 19. The tablet computer will be available in three sizes, with 16-, 32-, or 64-gigabyte capacity, and range in price from $499 to $699. The computer has WiFi capability and can be linked to a BlackBerry in order to receive emails. RIM is expected to start posting healthy earnings reports at the end of the week, but its ability to successfully wade into the tablet computer market is seen as key to its future competitiveness.
