Bomb Explodes at Jerusalem Bus Station

30 people were wounded and one person was killed in an attack being blamed on Palestinian militants.

An explosion shook central Jerusalem Wednesday afternoon, shattering the windows of two buses and killing a 59-year-old woman in an attack that worsened an already deepening crisis in the region. The blast is not believed to be the work of a suicide bomber, and likely came from an explosive device placed near a telephone pole in the crowded sector of the city. It is the latest act of violence in a week that has seen Palestinians and the Israeli Defence Forces exchange mortar fire across the Gaza border. Before Wednesday’s bombing, Vice-Premier Silvan Shalom said Israel may have to consider reinvading Gaza. The 2008-2009 Gaza war killed 1,000 Palestinian civilians and 13 Israelis.
