The Green party leader says the decision not to invite her 'is an attempt to shut down democracy.'
The debates haven’t even begun and already an argument is raging. The media consortium in charge of the debates announced Tuesday it would not invite Elizabeth May to participate because her party does not have a seat in the House of Commons. This, of course, sparked an immediate backlash from her supporters. May was also initially excluded from the 2008 debates, but public outcry forced the consortium to allow her participation. The Green party has posted a call to action on its website, urging Canadians to contact the media group made up of CBC, CTV, Radio-Canada, Global, and TVA, and fight against what May calls “the old-boys club.” The Liberals and NDP say they have no problem with her participating.
