Seif and Saadi al-Gadhafi say they will take over the country and steer it toward democratic reforms.
Trade one Gadhafi for two Gadhafis? It’s a proposal unlikely to be accepted by Libyan opposition forces, but the deal reportedly being offered by Seif and Saadi al-Gadhafi reveals deep divisions with the despot’s family and is evidence NATO air strikes are piling pressure on the embattled Libyan regime. Libyan government officials have defected in droves, forcing Moammar Gadhafi to rely increasingly on his seven sons, who have long had different ideas about which direction to take the country. Seif and Saadi favour a more open, western-style government, whereas their brothers Khamis and Mutuassim are hard-liners. Khamis leads a ruthless government militia and it’s unclear if he would go along with the deal, although Moammar Gadhafi would reportedly accede to it.
