The rift between the allies grows over a CIA operative accused of murdering two men in Lahore.

Relations between the United States and Pakistan, an ally in the War on Terror, have plunged to the point where the latter is asking the U.S. to stop aerial drone attacks and remove more than 300 intelligence personnel from the country. Pakistan's request, made by chief of the Pakistani army, follows an incident in January in which Raymond Davis, an American CIA officer, killed two men in Lahore that he claimed were trying to rob him. The case prompted mass protests against the U.S. throughout Pakistan, while the Obama administration last week openly criticized the Pakistani army's efforts in combating Taliban and al-Qaida fighters near the Afghan border.
