Elections Canada has ruled against the Conservatives' assertion that a special polling station on campus violated the Elections Act.
Elections Canada has ruled that the votes cast by 700 students in a special ballot at the University of Guelph are valid. On Friday afternoon, the agency ruled against claims by the Conservative party that the polling station was not sanctioned by Elections Canada, that partisan material was on display near the ballot box, and that scrutineers from other parties were not present. However, Elections Canada also ruled that no other special ballot polling stations, like the one in Guelph, will be authorized anywhere else in Canada for the remainder of the campaign. By all accounts, the Conservatives seem pleased with the decision and view the matter as a done deal.
