U.S. Sentators argue: Friends don't let friends drink and drive, so why should an app?
Apple and Google are staying silent in the face of a request to block cell phone apps that allow drunk drivers to evade checkpoints. Last month, a group of U.S. Senators asked Apple, Google and Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerrys, to remove apps from their online stores that help drunken drivers evade sobriety checkpoints--locations where officers stop some drivers and perform breath tests on suspected drunk drivers. One iPhone app boasts: "See Them Before They See You!" BlackBerry agreed to pull the apps the very next day. Google and Apple have yet to reply. An Apple spokeswoman said the company would not comment. Google said the apps don't violate the company's content policies.
