Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak could face the death penalty if convicted of ordering the shooting of protesters.
Egypt's new justice minister, Mohammed el-Guindi, said Saturday that former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak would face the death penalty if convicted of ordering the shooting of protesters during the uprisings that led to his ouster. El-Guindi said the case depended on whether former interior minister Habib el-Adly, who is also under investigation, would testify against Mubarak, saying that he had given the order to open fire on the protesters. At least 846 protesters were killed during the uprising. The justice minister also said that Mubarak's two sons and wife are facing allegations of corruption, as well.
