There's no word yet on whether Elections Canada will investigate the technical slip-up, which could result in a fine of $25,000.
Remember that law that got everyone all ticked off by making it illegal to broadcast election results before every polling station has closed? Well, it turns out the nation's public broadcaster, the CBC, went live with results in Atlantic Canada at 9 p.m. EST – half an hour before polls closed out east. The broadcast continued for four minutes until it was pulled and replaced with regularly scheduled programming. Elections Canada said it's not sure if anyone complained about the “premature transmission” of results, either by the CBC or by the dozens upon dozens of tweets sent before 10 p.m. EST containing early seat counts from Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and P.E.I.
