Bloc's Future in Doubt

After winning just four seats in Quebec, the Bloc Québécois could very well be headed to extinction.
The fate of the Bloc Québécois is up in the air after the party was trounced by the NDP in nearly all of its ridings and leader Gilles Duceppe announced he was resigning. Reduced to a paltry four seats from its previous total of 47, the Bloc now loses official party status in the House of Commons and the two-decade presence of the sovereignty movement on the Hill is all but over, despite 23 per cent of voters in Quebec casting ballots for the Bloc. The Parti Québécois, the Bloc's provincial equivalent, remains strong, however, and is considered likely to form the next provincial government due to sagging Liberal fortunes.
