Pierre-Luc Dusseault, a first-year political science student at the University of Sherbrooke, breaks the old record by four months.
Along with all the other history made on Monday night, voters in the Quebec riding of Sherbrooke elected the youngest MP in Canada's history. Pierre-Luc Dusseault, who is 19 years and 11 months old, is the first parliamentarian under the age of 20. The NDP candidate had made plans to work at a golf course this summer, his first summer break since beginning a political science degree at the University of Sherbrooke, but his voters said otherwise. Dusseault surpassed the previous youth record holder, former Liberal MP Claude-Andre Lachance, who was elected in 1975 at the age of 20 years, three months. Dusseault has pledged to be a voice for youth and education on Parliament Hill.
