With Ignatieff's resignation following a disappointing election result, the Liberals must find an interim replacement.
Liberal MP Bob Rae is Jean Chrétien's choice for the Liberal party's interim leader. The former prime minister has called on at least six MPs, asking them to support Rae as leader. Rae, who ran for the leadership in 2006, hasn't decided whether he wants to run for the party's crown again. "I can't say I'm a man without ambition, but at this stage in my life I am a realist about what can be done and what people are asking me to do," he said. Michael Ignatieff stepped down as leader after Monday's federal election, where the Liberals were elected in only 34 ridings. The party must select an interim leader within 27 days of the resignation. The Liberal caucus will meet on Wednesday in Ottawa to discuss who will become interim leader.
