TransCanada's new pipeline project in the U.S. suffers a setback as debate over an expansion rages.
TransCanada's Keystone pipeline sprang a small leak in North Dakota, spewing forth about 500 barrels of oil in its first spill since opening last year. Some 300 of the 500 barrels have already been cleaned up from the TransCanada property near the town of Milnor in the state's southeast corner. While much smaller than the 28,000 barrels that covered a swath of northern Alberta last week after the Rainbow pipeline burst, the Keystone's mishap likely won't help Calgary-based TransCanada's effort to have the pipeline extended from Oklahoma to refineries on the Gulf Coast and to double its carrying capacity.
