Rita Chretien's 'spirits are high' after nearly two months spent in a van in the Nevada wilderness, but her husband's fate is still unknown.
Rita Chretien, the Canadian woman who survived for seven weeks on trail mix and melted snow in a remote corner of Nevada, is recuperating well in hospital while the search for her husband, Albert, has been called off due to poor weather. The Chretiens were en route to Las Vegas from B.C. in March when their van broke down on a logging road. Feared dead, Rita was found by hunters on Friday, but her husband, who Rita said had left with a GPS device to find help, is still missing. The Idaho hospital hosting Rita said the 56-year-old is now eating solid foods and will likely make a full recovery.
