The Iranian-born Canadian citizen is free after spending nearly three weeks in custody in both Syria and Iran.
Dorothy Parvaz, a Canadian journalist working for Al Jazeera, has been released by the government of Iran after having been missing for 19 days. She was flown from Iran to Doha, Qatar on Wednesday and will soon head to her home in Vancouver, where her fiancé and much of her family live. Al Jazeera reports that Parvaz is “safe and well," adding that her ordeal will be made clear in the coming days. Syrian authorities detained Parvaz on April 29 when she arrived in Damascus, claiming her visa was expired. On May 11, she was deported to Iran, as she had tried to enter Syria with her Iranian passport.
