With two fires still burning nearby and no power, Slave Lake remains under an evacuation order.

Emergency officials say it could be weeks before residents of Slave Lake, Alta., are allowed to return to the town after a massive wildfire destroyed a third of it this weekend. Two fires are still raging just outside city limits, about 250 kilometres north of Edmonton, and despite a force strengthened by firefighters arriving from B.C. and Ontario, it will still be some time before the area can be considered safe enough for the 7,000 residents who fled Sunday evening. A mandatory evacuation order is still in effect, and power is still out throughout what remains of Slave Lake. The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations to help those now living in shelters in nearby communities.
