Alberta will release a map showing the damage wrought by Sunday's fire.
The 7,000 people displaced by the Slave Lake, Alta., wildfires could find out today if their homes survived a blaze that destroyed a third of the town. Provincial emergency officials are expected to release a map today detailing the destruction, as the evacuees get on with living in shelters in Edmonton, Westlock, and Athabasca. The Alberta government has committed $50 million to helping those who lost their homes get back on their feet after one of the province's all-time worst natural disasters. Residents have been prevented from returning to the community, some 250 kilometres north of Edmonton, due to a lack of running water and electricity, and the lingering threat of nearby forest fires.
