The former Ontario premier is set to compete against Marc Garneau in a race to lead the Liberals' paltry 34 MPs.
Liberal MP Bob Rae has signalled that he will seek the interim leadership of his party, abandoning any plans he might have had to lead the party into the 2015 election. Rae will run against former astronaut Marc Garneau to be leader of the much-reduced Liberal caucus, whose members have spent much of the last two weeks tossing insults at one another as they attempt to restructure following Michael Ignatieff's resignation. It appears that Rae will run only if the interim leader will stick around until 2012, giving at least a year for the party to find its footing before holding a leadership convention. The Liberals are set to vote on an interim leader next week.
