Quebec's Richelieu River to Rise Even More

Three thousand homes have been flooded in the area's worst flood in 100 years.

Storm winds are expected to increase water levels by some 15 centimetres Sunday along Quebec's flooding Richelieu River, prompting Premier Jean Charest has asked for the Armed Forces presence to be beefed up. Originally, the Department of Defence had sent 800 troops to the area, but 200 troops have since left. Defence Minister Peter Mackay says the remaining troops will stay as long as they're needed. The flooding is the worst the region has seen in more than 100 years. Three thousand homes have been flooded and authorities evacuated the area of some 1,000 people.
