Evacuees of the Alberta fire are not able to return to their homes just yet but will be able to briefly return to their town on arranged bus tours.
Officials say Slave Lake residents will get the chance to see their ravaged community on Monday morning. Five buses carrying the 250 residents who lost their homes to the devastating blaze will have the first tour. Media will not be allowed on the bus and residents are not allowed to leave the bus. Although the area has not been deemed safe, the decision to offer bus tours was made so that residents are given the opportunity to grieve. Evacuees have been told they will not be allowed to return to their community for at least another week as officials report new fires and hot spots are cropping up, with at least fifty per cent of the town still emitting smoke.
