Serbia will ship the general accused of war crimes during the Bosnian civil war to the Netherlands to be tried.
A court in Serbia has ruled that Ratko Mladic, a former Serbian general accused of genocide for his role in the Srebrenica massacre and the siege of Sarajevo, can be extradited to face war crimes charges in The Hague. The European Union expects Mladic, who had been in hiding for more than a decade, to be sent to the Netherlands within two weeks, where he will be tried by a tribunal of judges. Mladic's arrest helped Serbia clear a major hurdle toward gaining acceptance into the EU, as now the three main architects of the Bosnian war – deceased Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, and now Mladic – have been brought to some semblance of justice.
