Tensions between NATO and Afghan officials heighten after claims that an airstrike hit two homes.
An Afghan official said a NATO airstrike Saturday that was intended for insurgents instead hit two civilian homes in southwest Afghanistan, killing 14 people and injuring six. The strike followed an attack on a nearby U.S. Marine base by local insurgents. A NATO spokesman said it is aware of the report on civilian casualties and that a joint coalition and Afghan delegation would be investigating the site. Civilian deaths are an ongoing source of tension between NATO and Afghan officials since insurgents began their spring offensive across the country.
