Rogers Announces 24-Hour News Channel

CityNews Channel will launch in October as an extension of Rogers' nationwide radio network.

Because Sun News Network, CBC News Network, and CTV News Channel apparently weren't enough to satiate Canada's demand for news, Rogers announced that it, too, will launch a similarly boringly named 24-hour news channel this fall. Rogers said CityNews Channel will hit the airwaves in October, and will draw heavily from both its network of news radio stations across the country and Maclean's magazine, which it owns. Search us as to why the telecom giant felt that the one thing Canadian television needed was more punditry and breaking news coverage, but we'll never decry anything that provides more jobs for journalists.
