The party's upcoming policy convention could lend support to a movement to have citizenship stripped of anyone caught fighting against Canada.
Because it is apparently such a pressing concern, the Conservative party is considering introducing legislation that would strip the citizenship of any Canadian who's caught fighting against Canada or its allies. The policy proposal sounds like it's targeted at Omar Khadr, who, as a teenager, fought with insurgents in Afghanistan against U.S. troops before being severely injured in a firefight in which he threw a grenade that killed a U.S. soldier. The Conservative party would also consider pursuing charges of high treason against anyone caught fighting against Canada, a charge that carries a sentence of life imprisonment. The treason policy is one of many to be discussed at the Tories' upcoming policy convention from June 9 to 11.
