One down, three to go as the Vancouver Canucks eke out win against a tough Boston squad.
The Vancouver Canucks need just three more wins to bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada after (barely) beating the Boston Bruins 1-0 in the first game of the playoff finals. The tight, physical, and penalty-filled game was a showcase for the teams' goaltenders, Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas, who faced a cumulative 70 shots. Both goalies were nominated for the Vezina Trophy, given to the top goaltender in the regular season. The teams seemed headed to overtime until the Canucks' Raffi Torres slipped a one-timer under a sprawling Thomas with just 18.5 seconds to go in the third period to give them the victory. Vancouver can increase its lead to two games when the teams battle again on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.
