The aging Montreal actor gets some love from his alma mater.
William Shatner has boldly gone where no other Star Trek actor has gone before – the convocation stage at McGill University to accept an honorary doctoral degree. Shatner, a Montreal native who translated his mediocre acting ability into iconic roles as Captain Kirk and T.J. Hooker, received the doctorate of letters from the same university from which he graduated with a little-used bachelor's degree in commerce nearly 60 years ago. Now 80, and beloved by sci-fi and comedy fans around the world, Shatner took his time on stage to urge the collected graduates to not “be afraid of making an ass of yourself. I do it all the time and look where I got." Sage advice indeed.
