About 6,200 postal workers in Montreal are hitting the picket lines today as the Canada Post strike spreads across the country.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers' strike has now hit Montreal after temporary labour stoppages at Canada Post facilities in Winnipeg and Hamilton. The rotating strikes are designed to minimize the impact on Canadians, as it means Canada Post workers will continue on with their work much as before, except for when it's their city's turn for a 24- or 48-hour strike. Should CUPW and Canada Post be unable to reach an agreement, the union has said it will launch a nationwide strike in which delivery of almost all mail – except for social assistance cheques like welfare, disability, and pensions – would be halted.
