More than a month after flooding near the Quebec-U.S. border began, the prime minister will see the damage first-hand.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is to visit the flooded Richelieu region of Quebec as cleanup continues after a month-long disaster. Local officials say they intend to give Harper a piece of their mind over why he took so long to visit the region while flying in to flooded Manitoba and visiting the aftermath of a wildfire in Slave Lake, Alta., on a moment's notice. About 1,000 homes had to be evacuated due to the flooding of the Richelieu River throughout May, and at least 3,000 houses have been damaged. The floods have receded, but the cleanup has just begun. Residents want the prime minister to send in the military to help clear away thousands of sandbags, but so far no such assistance has been forthcoming.
