But the murder charges against Hassan Diab aren't likely to stick, says the judge who signed off on the extradition.
Hassan Diab, a professor living in the Ottawa area who French authorities believe is linked to the bombing of a Paris synagogue in 1980, will be extradited to France, an Ontario court ruled today. Diab had worked at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University until 2008, when he was arrested at the behest of French police, who say he is partly responsible for the deaths of four people in the bomb attack. Diab maintains that he had no role in it, but the judge ruled that due to an extradition agreement with France, he must be sent there to stand trial. However, the judge did agree that the case against Diab was pretty flimsy and likely won't result in a conviction.
