Google's Street View project accidentally gathered personal data on thousands of people from unprotected wireless networks.
Google should be thoroughly audited for concerns over personal data collected by the online company during the production of its Street View application, according to Canada's privacy commissioner. Jennifer Stoddart said while Google has done well in responding to her inquiry into its collection of personal data from unsecured wireless networks as it took photos all over the country for Street View, the company should hire an independent auditor to review all of its privacy programs. The audit's results should then be reported to Stoddart as part of a series of recommendations she gave Google to ensure the tech giant wasn't unnecessarily compromising its users' privacy.
