Let's hear it for the tobacco industry: Nicotine triggers a part of the brain that curbs hunger.
Besides making you more appealing to the opposite sex and having a smooth, all-natural taste, there's yet another good reason to start smoking: It makes you thinner, says science. A massive study undertaken in part by Canadian researchers has found that nicotine targets a part of the brain that suppresses appetite. We're not going to get into the details (that's what the link is for), but the scientists say that uncovering the part of the brain linked to appetite suppression could lead to new drugs that focus on controlling overweight patients' hunger without the polluted lungs, shortened life, yellow fingers, rotting teeth, and cancer.
