While the president is recuperating abroad, his vice-president is discussing a transition plan with rebels and opposition leaders.

Opposition leaders in Yemen are meeting with the country's vice-president to discuss a potential transfer of power that would put an end to President Ali Abdullah Saleh's 33-year rule. Saleh is currently receiving treatment in Saudi Arabia after being injured in a bomb blast at the presidential palace in the capital, Sanaa. But while he's been away, his second-in-command, Abed Rabbu Mansour Hadi, has reached out to opposition members to discuss a succession plan after four months of violent anti-government protests. The opposition is calling for the Saudi-brokered truce in place in Sanaa to be extended across the nation as various tribes, protesters, and Islamist groups battle government forces and one another in a widening power vaccuum.
