One major national strike down, one more to go!
Air Canada and the Canadian Auto Workers union have struck a tentative agreement, just as the House of Commons was preparing to debate a bill that would have forced the striking service agents back to work. About 3,800 ticket agents and call-centre staff had taken to the picket lines as of midnight Monday, prompting minor delays at airports across the country. Labour Minister Lisa Raitt had said a prolonged strike could prove ruinous to Canada's aviation system in justifying her plan to introduce the back-to-work bill, which now appears to be unnecessary. The union had been striking over proposed changes to pensions and wages. Details of the agreement have yet to be released.
