The Saudi regime's edict prohibiting women from driving is facing its own Arab Spring.
Women in Saudi Arabia are protesting a law that forbids them from driving, with activists calling on them to start driving without male accompaniment starting today. There are reports of women driving around the capital, Riyadh, and the city of Dammam, in clear contravention of one of Saudi Arabia's more esoterically oppressive laws, but there have yet to be any arrests. The Facebook group behind the protest, Women2Drive, has vowed to keep up the peaceful civil disobedience (the best kind of protest around, right Vancouver?) until the Saudi government issues a royal decree permitting women to drive without breaking the law.
