The names, street addresses, and birthdays of everyone in Britain could be uploaded online if hackers' claim is true.
Hackers purporting to be members of LulzSec claim they have stolen all of Britain's 2011 census data, suggesting that yesterday's announcement of LulzSec and Anonymous joining forces to take on governments around the world wasn't just posturing. The British government hasn't confirmed if the data were stolen, but a statement from the hackers said they had “obtained records of every single citizen who gave their records to the security-illiterate U.K. government” and will post them online for people to download. Scotland Yard has already arrested one 19-year-old, Ryan Cleary, in connection with the hack. LulzSec, however, denied on its Twitter account that it was linked to either Cleary or the census hack.
