A complaint from a former Liberal MP has the RCMP looking into whether $50 million spent in the Muskokas was done so illegally.
The $50 million spent to refurbish cabinet minister Tony Clement's Ontario riding for last year's G8 summit is being investigated by the RCMP. Former Liberal MP Marlene Jennings prompted the investigation during the election campaign when a draft of the auditor general's report on summit spending suggested the $50 million might have been illegally distributed. The final report took out references to the spending being illegal, but did note that the Tories might have misled Parliament by not “clearly or transparently” demonstrating what the money was to be used for. The money was approved for a border infrastructure fund, even though Clement's riding doesn't border the U.S.
