With hundreds of Syrians streaming across the border, the military heads north, surely causing a stir with its Turkish neighbours.
Despite pledges for “unprecedented” reform this week emanating from the embattled Syrian government, President Bashar al-Assad has yet to call off troops from massing near the border with Turkey as hundreds of Syrians flee for refuge with their northern neighbour. Armoured vehicles, tanks, and soldiers have gathered less than a kilometre away from the Turkish border, raising tensions between Assad's regime and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. The military has massed near where hundreds of Syrians broke through barbed wire to enter Turkey, where the Red Crescent has established a number of humanitarian aid camps for those who have abandoned the bloodshed that's killed more than 1,300 people since March.
