The actor known for his role as wise-cracking gumshoe Columbo wore the same suit, tie and shoes for the entire series.

Peter Falk died on Thursday at his Beverly Hills home after struggling with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Despite a long and varied acting career that garnered him two Academy Award nominations -- for "Murder Inc." and "Pocketful of Miracles" -- it is his Emmy-winning turn as the crafty but disheveled Los Angeles detective Columbo that Falk is best remembered for. Though the series ended in 1977 after a seven-year stretch, it was constantly recommissioned in the 1980s and 1990s in the form television movies, due to its ongoing popularity. He endeared himself to a younger generation when he took on the role as Grandfather in the classic "The Princess Bride." Falk was 83.
