A 16-year-old Calgarian is set to break the record when he flies aboard half-insane billionaire Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic spaceship next year.
Ten Calgarians have booked tickets to space aboard one of billionaire Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic spaceships, including a 16-year-old who will become the youngest person to have ever visited space. Those 10 make Calgary the biggest market in Canada for space tourism, with each of them pitching in $200,000 for a spot aboard the spaceship when it begins voyages next year. The unnamed 16-year-old will have to wait until he's 18 to fly, due to Virgin rules, but it's safe to say he'll have a better story for first-year university orientation weeks than any of his classmates. The youngest person to have visited space so far was Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov, who was 25 when he went into orbit in 1961. Take THAT, Soviet Russia.
