Canada's foreign affairs minister has his first of what will likely be countless whirlwind tours of the Arab world.
It only took three months of our military dropping bombs on their country, but Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird quietly visited Libya today to meet with the leadership of the Transitional National Council to discuss the rebellion's political wing's vision for their country post-Gadhafi. Baird met with TNC leader Mahmoud Jibril and other top figures in Benghazi, which has become the seat of rebel-held territory, to discuss the TNC's plans to usher in more democracy once Moammar Gadhafi is deposed. Baird, who brought along dozens of trauma kits to aid rebel fighters, said he wanted to learn more about his tenuous allies first-hand before committing to them further. The trip was Baird's second as foreign affairs minister, but the other one was to a French seaside resort for a G8 meeting, which barely counts as an international trip.
