Teen Charged with First-Degree Murder in Police Officer's Death

The York Regional Police officer was struck and pinned underneath a minivan containing four youths during a traffic stop.
A 15 year old boy was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday in the death of Constable Garrett Styles, who was pinned underneath a van during a traffic stop near Newmarket, Ont. on Tuesday. The vehicle accelerated as Styles was standing by the driver's door, dragging him along before the young driver of the van lost control and the vehicle flipped over.The teen was charged in a Toronto hospital, where he remains with serious injuries to his neck and back. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the minor will not be named. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on July 7.
