Almost 200 people who live near the Souris River have been evacuated, while 1,000 await word.

The provincial and federal governments authorized Saturday the deployment of 200 Canadian Forces troops to aid in flood-fighting efforts in Souris, Man. The community is gearing up for the third crest this year on the Souris River, which is expected to happen on Tuesday. The crest is expected to be at unprecedented levels. The surge on the river began after a storm filled reservoirs to capacity, forcing the province to release water through dams. Nearly 200 people are already out of their homes, while another 1,000 are on evacuation alert. Flooding on the Souris upstream has also damaged 4,000 homes in North Dakota.
