Massive demonstration against government was held in city two days earlier.
There are reports that Syrian tanks and troops have been deployed at the entrances to the city of Hama. Sunday's action comes two days after the largest protest against President Bashar al-Assad since the country's uprising began was held in Hama. Rami Abdel-Rahman, president of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said that "the authorities seem to have opted for a military solution to subdue the city." Abdel-Rahman also reported that a number of arrests have been made on the outskirts of the city, as well as hearing "heavy gunfire" overnight. There has been no comment from the Syrian government on its latest military movements. More than 1,350 civilians and 350 security personnel have been killed across Syria since protests began in mid-March.
