Charges Against Strauss-Kahn to Be Dropped

Sources close to the case say the charges could be gone within two weeks.

The sexual assault and forcible confinement charges pressed against former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn will be dropped, according to the New York Post. The case against Strauss-Kahn has unravelled over the credibility of the supposed victim, a chambermaid who claimed that Strauss-Kahn held her against her will and raped her in a Manhattan hotel room in May. The charges led to Strauss-Kahn resigning from his position as managing director of the International Monetary Fund, and almost certainly prevented him from launching a bid for the French presidency. Strauss-Kahn's defence team has also threatened to press slander charges against Tristane Banon, a French novelist, if she follows through on her threat to sue Strauss-Kahn for sexual assault over an alleged incident in 2002.
