Gadhafi's conditions of surrender could be taking shape as Russia steps up its mediation game.
Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi would step down if his security is guaranteed, and if he's allowed to stay in the country, according to a leading Russian newspaper. Kommersant reported that talks between NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen, South African President Jacob Zuma, and Russian officials hinged around finding ways to get Gadhafi to step down after Libyan representatives indicated Gadhafi might cede his job under conditions guaranteeing his safety and his right to live in Libya. The Libyan civil war has been raging since mid-February, and NATO's involvement in the conflict has dragged on well past its original three-month deadline. Rebel groups, however, have stated that Gadhafi must leave the country for any chance of a negotiated peace lasting.
