The new tool should help the public keep track of just where all our tax dollars are headed.
Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page has launched a beta version of a website that will track government spending for all the public to see. Page says the site ought to help MPs figure out what could use some trimming as Parliament looks for ways to tame the country's mounting deficit, but it will also let interested citizens find out, for example, how much each department pays each year toward employee pension plans. The finances of what appears to be every single federal department are available for review, but they only go back to 2009-2010.
