Hypoallergenic Dogs Actually Pretty Allergenic

Study reveals they're just regular dogs.
Researchers have found that hypoallergenic dogs produce no fewer allergens than other breeds, despite the popular belief that they produce less dander and saliva, and shed less fur. In the first study of its kind, a team of researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit analyzed dust samples from 173 homes and 60 dog breeds to measure environmental allergen levels. Christine Cole Johnson, the study's senior author, said that “based on previous allergy studies conducted here at Henry Ford, exposure to a dog early in life provides protection against dog allergy development. But the idea that you can buy a certain breed of dog and think it will cause less allergy problems for a person already dog-allergic is not borne out by our study.” Sorry, Bo, but you’re just not as special as the Obama family thought.
