News of the World Hides Parting Shots in Crossword

It's not like any of the News of the World's readers would be able to finish the puzzle anyway, right?

Staff at the News of the World used the British tabloid's crossword puzzle to vent their frustration at the former editor Rebekah Brooks, who has managed to keep her job with Rupert Murdoch's News International while those at the widely read newspaper are suddenly unemployed. Answers to the puzzle included “Brook,” “stench,” “tart,” and “disaster,” while clues such as “mix in prison” and “criminal enterprise” somehow made it by the senior editors whose job it was to make sure there were no hidden or libellous messages in the tabloid's final edition. The paper shut down on Sunday over a massive voicemail hacking scandal that now appears to have become a scandal of the world, with reports that the tabloid sought to pay New York police officers to access the voicemails of 9-11 victims.
